These are some of the groups we have donated to in previous years.
2018
Talitha Koum Institute (1st quarter).
Talitha Koum partners with parents to raise children who are intellectually capable, emotionally resilient & prepared to be contributing members of the community from birth to 5 years old. They currently have a need for 30 warm hats for newborns to 5 year old local children and crib sheets. See http://www.talithakoum.org/ or Point of Contact Gina & thank you for your interest in our community. 71 hand knit children’s hats and 6 crib blankets were donated 1/25/2018. & on 4/16/2018 we delivered 2 blankets, 2 stuffed toys, 3 pair mittens, 37 hats. Total donation: 120 items!! Thank you!
Friends for Life (2nd quarter).
Friends for Life helps the elderly and people with disabilities live independently as long as possible, protects and cares for those who are unable to care for themselves and brings generations together to enrich lives. Shawls, mitts, blankets, hats, scarves, etc are welcome as well as purchased items. Thank you in advance. 4/26/2018 donated 21 items. 7/6/2018 donated 224 more items bringing our grand total to 245 items. THANK YOU!
Local Cancer Patients (3rd quarter).
WK&C hand crafted and delivered on 9/30/2018 donated 54 Seat Belt Port Pillows, 3 knockers, 11 chemo caps with ties, 12 hat & scarf sets, 2 wheel chair wraps, 2 lapghans and 32 hats. THANK YOU!
Special Olympics (4th quarter).
On November 29th, the Waco Knitters & Crocheters donated 75 hand crafted scarves to be distributed to the Special Olympic athletes on Sat Feb 2, 2019 in Austin during the Texas Winter Games. This is Special Olympic’s 50th year so the scarves were made with a touch of gold, 5 foot long, 6 inches wide. Baby hats (all year).
We hand craft newborn hats and donated them all year long to both Providence Hospital and Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, TX. 5-4-2018 delivered 214 baby hats & blankets. 12-17-2018 delivered 260 baby hats & blankets to Providence Newborns AND 52 preemie caps & 41 NICU squares to Baylor Scott & White HIllcrest NICU Dept. THANK YOU!!
2017
Local Homeless c/o Church Under the Bridge (1st quarter).
We will knit and crochet scarves for the homeless. Busy folks and non-knitters are welcome to participate by donating umbrellas and ponchos! POC Sue S. Collected: 126 items including 83 scarves, 10 hats and 3 Prayer clothes as well as 20 ponchos and 10 umbrellas! Thank you! Update 7-27-2017 + 12 more scarves + 5 more hats 12/21/2017 for a total of 143 items.
Local Cancer Patients (2nd quarter).
We will knit and crochet items of use for the cancer patients in our community like Chemo hats (soft yarn, no seams) and Knitted Knockers (soft breast replacement) for Baylor Scott & White Mcclinton Cancer Center. Collected: 78 items including chemo caps, lapghans, knitted knockers, scarves, scarves with pockets on the end. Thank you! + 1 scarf, afghan, 2 hats 12/21/2017 for total of 82 items.
Baby Hats (3rd quarter)
We collected a total of 551 baby items: 282 baby hats, 9 baby blankets, 4 sets of booties and 70 NICU squares were delivered to Providence Hospital and 182 baby hats were delivered to Hillcrest Hospital. Thank you! Additionally 21 preemie has, 3 baby hats and 2 baby afghans were delivered 12/22/2017 bringing our 2017 total to 577 baby items. Thank you very much!!!
Special Olympics (4th quarter).
77 Special Olympic scarves for 2018 winter games were made and donated to the 2018 Texas winter Special Olympic athletes Feb 2018 in Austin. POC Amy.
Friends for Life (impromptu extra donation): Collected 17 items: 1 triangle shawl, 2 scarves, 1 shawlette, 1 lapghan, 1 beret, 2 hat/scarf sets, 1 headband, 1 cowl, 1 hat, 1 headband/cowl set, 2 dish towels, 2 dish cloths, 1 cup cozy that were delivered 12/22/2017. Thank you!!!
